My Resume
About me:
Benny Goodman is a Los Angeles-based graphic designer working at the intersection of publication, typography, image-making, identity, and community-centered design. A recent BFA graduate from Otis College of Art and Design (‘25) with a minor in Advertising, she graduated with honors, maintained a 3.88 GPA, earned Dean’s List recognition, and received The Group scholarship. She was selected as Class Marshal for her graduating cohort in Graphic Design.
As a first-generation college student and former high school dropout, Benny’s path into design and education was anything but linear. Through visual communication, she found both direction and purpose, a way of thinking and seeing rooted in observation, empathy, and systems. Her practice explores the tension between experimental form and functional clarity. Merging typographic disruption, material exploration, and layered composition with a systems-based approach. Through distortion, texture, and visual complexity, she builds adaptable frameworks that challenge convention while remaining intuitive and accessible across audiences
Her work has received accolades including Best Book Overall for SOUR: The Fermentation Publication. Before Otis, she studied at Santa Barbara City College, where her portfolio earned her one of Otis’ top transfer scholarships and a piece showcased at Santa Barbara Town Hall.
Having lived in over 20 neighborhoods across Los Angeles, Benny’s design approach is informed by a lifelong proximity to cultural exchange, contradiction, and reinvention. Her work is conceptually grounded, materially aware, and driven by a belief in design as a tool for collective storytelling. She thrives in collaborative environments and plans to pursue an MFA in the future with the goal of teaching and mentoring the next generation of designers.
